      Stem Cell Research Scientist

      Opportunity:

      Defined Bioscience develops breakthrough solutions for stem cell research with an emphasis on novel, fully defined reagents, media and optimized workflows. We strive to provide improved quality solutions and reduce the production cost of stem cells, iPSC-derived cells and tissues for our customers in the life science and cultured meat spaces. Defined Bioscience seeks an enthusiastic scientific leader for our startup to help guide innovative R&D and support commercial activities. The ideal candidate for the Stem Cell Research Scientist position is currently completing postdoctoral training or will have recently completed a PhD program, and is searching for a highly driven team to join. Together, we will continue to make an exciting, positive impact in stem cell technologies and reagent development for life sciences and cultured meat. Come join us!

       

      Responsibilities:

      • Maintain stem cell cultures - continually assess the quality of pluripotent stem cells, progenitors & terminally differentiated cells by cell-type-specific marker expression & functional characterization.
      • Follow established protocols to differentiate pluripotent stem cells into cell types relevant to neurodevelopment & neurodegeneration such as hematopoietic & neural progenitor cells.
      • Maintain iPSC-derived progenitor cells and terminally differentiated cells in long-term culture.
      • Create and Improve SOPs and establish new protocols.
      • Differentiate hematopoietic & neural progenitor cells into microglia, neurons, astrocytes and cells of interest.
      • Work with the automation team to develop & integrate QC methods to scale-up production of reagents.
      • Lead the development of assays to develop and test new products.
      • Keep detailed records of differentiation & QC procedures, observations, data and results.
      • Maintain stocks of consumables & reagents in common lab spaces.

       

      Requirements/Qualifications:

      • Experienced post-doctoral or top tier recent PhD graduate with experience in developmental biology, microbiology, stem cell biology, tissue engineering or related field with 0-3 years of experience; industry experience is highly desired.
      • Expertise with aseptic mammalian cell culture technique, including long-term (up to 90 days) antibiotic-free.
      • Routine experience with common cell biology techniques including PCR, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry and imaging plus working knowledge of transfection/genome editing is expected.
      • Experience with sophisticated culture models involving stem cell maintenance, multi-lineage differentiation; engineering 3D tissues is a plus.
      • Excellent analytical, critical thinking & communication (oral & written) skills.
      • Comfortable working with statistics in biology; DOE experience a plus!
      • Works well both independently, as well as on a team.
      • Possess good time organization skills, attention to detail and works efficiently to execute quality experiments and meet all company/customer deadlines.
      • Strong drive to collaborate in a dynamic team environment.
      • Experience working in a core facility is a plus.
      • Must be willing to work flexible hours as necessary.

      Salary: $70,000/year
