Defined Bioscience Announces the Launch of Bovine FGF2-G3

We are excited to announce the launch of our latest hyperstable growth factor product, Bovine FGF2-G3. FGF2-G3 is a thermostabilized growth factor that offers a novel way to grow FGF2-dependent cell cultures more efficiently, with fewer medium exchanges.

Native FGF2 has a short half-life of up to 12 hours at 37°C. In contrast, FGF2-G3 retains full biological activity even after three weeks at 37°C, allowing for reduced need for medium changes and enabling recycling of spent or conditioned media. Stable levels of FGF2 facilitate a more homogeneous, undifferentiated stem cell culture, while saving researchers valuable time and money, as repeated supplementation of FGF2 or daily complete medium exchanges are not required.

Developed by incorporating the same nine mutations that stabilize human FGF2 to enhance the native Bos taurus sequence, Defined’s Bovine FGF2-G3 offers a cost-effective alternative to develop species-specific bovine protocols for cultivated beef and cellular agriculture, as well as research applications with stem cells and other FGF2-dependent systems.

Fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2 or basic FGF) is an essential component of cell culture media that promotes several key processes such as maintenance and proliferation of stem cells, ranging from pluripotent stem cell (PSC) types, such as embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), to multipotent stem cell types, such as mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) or myosatellite cells (also known as satellite cells or muscle stem cells (MuSC)). It also helps support immortalized and other highly proliferative cell types. FGF2 is widely used in both academic and commercial applications, including the fields of life sciences, livestock reproduction, and cultivated meat.

Bovine FGF2-G3 is now available for purchase! For more information, please visit our Products page or contact us directly.
